There are many powerful, independent women in the world, it’s hard to choose a few of the most inspirational, but I’m going to give it a go. To start the week we’ll look at one of the most influential women in my life, someone who sparked a lifelong love of literature, writing, adventure and imagination. Not only that, but she turned me into the woman I am today and she’s inspired many people all over the world to fall in love with the wizarding world once again, that’s right to start our week of inspirational women we’re going to start closer to home and look at the life of the beloved author and genuinely beautiful human being, J.K. Rowling.
Who is J.K. Rowling?
Joanne Rowling began as a single mother while working as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International, when on one bright day whilst waiting for a delayed train from Manchester to London in 1990, she conceived the idea that would eventually seal her fate, the idea of a young wizard named Harry Potter. The next seven years could only be described as turbulent as she lived through the death of her mother, birth of her daughter and decline into relative poverty. But, she never gave up and eventually adopted her Grandmother’s name as her middle initial (Kathleen.) Now she is a multi-millionaire who has published many books and enjoyed a successful career as a writer and film producer.
Why is she so special?
Not only is she beautiful and talented, she’s inspired a generation of young people to read, which in itself is an amazing feat. However, there’s more to this woman than her talent for the written word. She gave so much of her massive fortune to charity organisations that she could no longer be known as a billionaire. She is truly an exceptional person and has often stated in interviews that someone who is blessed with wealth has the responsibility to make the world a better place. She is an inspiration and in her own wise words stated: “We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already.”
